Mary Higgins-Clark
Mary Higgins Clark (1927–2020) was an American author known as the "Queen of Suspense", specializing in psychological thrillers and crime novels. Born in New York City, she grew up in an Irish-American family and began working at an early age after the death of her father. After her studies, she worked as a secretary and radio scriptwriter, and began writing at an early age, although she did not achieve real literary success until later.
After being left a widow with five children, she decided to seriously pursue literature. Her breakthrough novel was "Where Are the Children?" (1975), which became a bestseller and established her signature style – suspenseful stories with strong female characters in dangerous situations. Numerous successful novels followed, such as "Remember Me", "The Night Belongs to Me", "Together Forever", and over 50 novels that have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.
In addition to her solo novels, she also co-wrote with her daughter Carol Higgins Clark, also a thriller writer. Her works are characterized by tension without excessive brutality, a focus on family and emotional relationships, and often happy endings.
Mary Higgins Clark passed away in 2020 at the age of 92, leaving behind a vast literary legacy and millions of readers around the world.
