Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie (15. September 1890 – 12. Januar 1976) war eine britische Schriftstellerin, die vor allem als „Königin der Kriminalromane“ bekannt war. Die im englischen Torquay geborene Autorin hat über 80 Romane, Theaterstücke und Geschichtensammlungen verfasst. Ihre Werke wurden in über 100 Sprachen übersetzt, was sie zu einer der meistverkauften Autorinnen aller Zeiten macht.
In ihrem ersten Roman „Der mysteriöse Vorfall in Styles“ (1920) stellte sie den berühmten Detektiv Hercule Poirot vor, der zu einer der berühmtesten Figuren der Kriminalliteratur werden sollte. Eine weitere berühmte Figur, die sie schuf, war Miss Marple, eine weise und scharfsinnige alte Frau aus dem Dorf.
Zu ihren bekanntesten Werken zählen „Mord im Orient-Express“, „Zehn kleine schwarze Männer“ (später bekannt als „And None Remains“) und „Tod auf dem Nil“. Ihre Handlungen sind bekannt für komplizierte Geheimnisse, überraschende Wendungen und logische Schlussfolgerungen.
Christie ist außerdem der Autor des am längsten laufenden Theaterstücks der Geschichte, „Die Mausefalle“, das seit 1952 ununterbrochen in London aufgeführt wird.
Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs arbeitete sie als Apothekerin, was ihr bei der realistischen Darstellung von Giften in ihren Romanen half. Ihre Werke erfreuen sich bis heute großer Beliebtheit und wurden vielfach als Filme und Serien adaptiert.
