The investigation leads to shocking revelations about the power struggle between the Papacy, France, and the Ottoman Empire, as Europe trembles before the Turkish siege of Vienna. A document called the Imprimatur, which could change the course of history, is at the center of the plot.
Monaldi and Sorti create a rich tapestry of historical detail, blending real events with fiction. The novel explores themes of power, manipulation, and truth, set in the tense atmosphere of a claustrophobic inn.
