Albania in 1989, an isolated and forgotten country that is difficult to enter and even more difficult to leave, a country where political executions are an invisible part of everyday life, and standing in lines for food is a form of sociability. When the communist regime is overthrown in Albania in December 1990, Lea Ypi discovers many truths about her family and the country's history, and freedom takes on new meanings.
