For the People and the Youth (Volume 12 of the Collected Works of Vjenceslav Novak) is a collection of short stories in which Novak continues his realistic treatment of the life of the "little man".

The collection contains stories such as Master Adam, Mac and From Life to Life, which address social injustices, poverty, artisan and family life, moral trials and the relationship between the individual and society. Novak portrays ordinary people – craftsmen, workers, poor families – in their daily struggle for survival and dignity with deep compassion and a critical eye.

As in his other works, the author emphasizes the influence of the environment on the fate of the individual, the hypocrisy of civil society and the nobility of the ordinary man. The stories are written in a lively, realistic style with rich psychological insights, detailed descriptions and authentic dialogues. The title of the collection reflects Novak's committed creativity aimed at popular education and the upbringing of young people through literature.

For the People and Youth represents an important part of Novak's narrative opus and an essential read for fans of Croatian realism, social prose, and stories about the everyday life, suffering, and resilience of ordinary people in the 19th century.
