Tragom slučaja Alilović
The book is a documentary collection about the political trial against Ivan Alilović.
The book is published by the Library of Testimonies and deals with the staged trial that took place in 1970 before the District Court in Mostar against Professor Ivan Alilović (1922–2003), a literary historian, bibliographer and researcher of local heritage. Alilović was charged with “hostile propaganda” and “inciting national intolerance” and sentenced to three years in prison. The publication presents documents, testimonies and contexts related to this case, which in the then Yugoslavia became a symbol of the political persecution of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alilović was defended pro bono by nine prominent lawyers of different nationalities, and the trial was also followed by the Croatian cultural public (including representatives of Matica Hrvatska). The book serves as a testimony to the regime’s repression and the defense of national and cultural identity.
