The plot of the book "Two English Women and a Continent" takes place at the turn of the century and follows two sensitive English sisters who embark on a complicated love affair with an inexperienced Frenchman. Every unsatisfactory ménage à trois is unsatisfactory in its own way, to paraphrase Tolstoy.
