Kralj Ivan

Kralj Ivan

William Shakespeare

King John is one of William Shakespeare's historical works that explores political intrigue, power struggles and personal ambitions. Interestingly, it is the first of Shakespeare's works to be plagiarized by his contemporaries.

The plot revolves around the English King John (John), who fights to preserve the throne in the face of threats from within and without. France, supporting the right of Prince Arthur, the heir to the throne, challenges England, while within the kingdom, John's insecurity and political manipulations cause betrayal and instability.

The work explores the themes of the legitimacy of government, moral compromises and human greed. Strong characters stand out, such as King Ivan's mother, Queen Elinore, and Bastard, who provides a critical insight into power and political dishonesty. The tragedy of King Ivan culminates in his downfall and death, symbolizing the fragility of power and the cost of political ambition. King John remains a powerful drama about the complexity of government and human nature.
