Denis Diderot

The epistolary novel of this famous French philosopher and writer is the life confession of a young girl, Suzana Simonin, which she sends through letters to the Marquis de Croismare.

Condemned to life in a monastery due to the (unjust) decision of her parents to keep her away from her sister's suitor who started showing affection for her, she, after several years of suffering as a monk, decides to run away. As the reason for her escape from the monastery, she will cite only boredom and that such a way of life is incompatible with her nature. In this work, Diderot, following the spirit of rationalism, in a certain way condemns the then custom of ordaining young girls and boys, considering it to be contrary to their nature.
