Eugenie Grandet
The book follows the life of young Eugénie, who grows up in a provincial French town in a strict and greedy family.
Félix Grandet, is extremely stingy and obsessed with wealth, so the family lives in constant austerity and emotional coldness. Eugénie, although raised in such an environment, remains kind-hearted and sensitive. The plot develops when Eugénie falls in love with her cousin Charles, who comes to their house after the death of his father. Their love becomes the central thread of the novel, but is constrained by family interests, money and social pressures. The novel depicts the conflict between love and greed and criticizes 19th-century bourgeois society, where money often has a higher value than human relationships. Eugénie ends up morally pure, but emotionally disappointed and lonely.
