Peroj između povijesnog i fikcijskog : publicistička građa
Milorad Nikčević’s book *Peroj između povijesnog i fikcijskog* (2000) is a collection of journalistic material concerning the Istrian settlement of Peroj, exploring its distinct tradition and the Montenegrin minority.
The collection of non-fiction and journalistic material titled Peroj između povijesnog i fikcijskog ("Peroj: Between the Historical and the Fictional"), compiled and edited by Prof. Milorad Nikčević, Ph.D. (published by the Montenegrin Cultural Society "Montenegro-Montenegrina" of Osijek in 2000), is dedicated to the unique cultural and historical destiny of Peroj—an Istrian locality known for its long-standing Montenegrin community. The book brings together a diverse array of texts, accounts, articles, and documents that offer witnesses and researchers insight into the centuries-long existence of this distinct ethnic and cultural enclave in the Pula region. At the heart of the work lies the interplay between factual, documented history and the literary or fictionalized portrayals of Peroj and its inhabitants from the 17th century onwards. The author and editor systematically sheds light on the processes of migration and the preservation of the original identity, language, traditions, and religious customs of the Montenegrins of Peroj, while simultaneously illustrating how writers, travelogue authors, and publicists perceived and interpreted this locale. The book serves as a valuable resource for the study of intercultural exchanges in Istria, the status of national minorities, and the historiographical and ethnographic material concerning historical ties between Montenegrins and Croats.
