In Tajanstveni izvor, Zagor encounters warriors whose clothing and weapons belong to no recognised tribe. Appearing near the spring at Black Rock, they abduct Makela, a young Menominee woman, and disappear without a clear trail. A rescue mission soon becomes a mystery that challenges the familiar laws of nature.

Zagor and Chico try to connect the strange events and establish where the attackers come from. Seeking an explanation, they turn to the elderly Doctor Metrevelic. His knowledge offers another way of approaching phenomena that Darkwood’s inhabitants might readily attribute to supernatural forces.

Moreno Burattini builds the adventure through the gradual discovery of clues, combining western storytelling, mystery and science fiction. The spring is more than a setting: it lies at the centre of a threat Zagor must understand before he can help the missing woman. The uncertainty surrounding his opponents’ origins and abilities gives the investigation its suspense.

Drawn by Alessandro Chiarolla, this issue begins a storyline continued in Ludens #131, Narod s jezera, and concluded in the opening section of #132, Zeleni rubac. It introduces an adventure in which Zagor’s pursuit of justice takes him towards the boundaries of the known world.
