Alkemičar

Alkemičar

Paulo Coelho

A young shepherd travels from Andalusia towards Egypt’s pyramids in search of treasure, learning to listen to his heart, recognise omens and follow his calling.

Santiago, a young Andalusian shepherd, dreams of treasure buried near the Egyptian pyramids. An encounter with a mysterious king encourages him to sell his flock and leave his familiar life behind. In North Africa, his resolve is soon tested by loss, uncertainty and the temptation to abandon his quest.

Robbed in Tangier, he finds work with a crystal merchant and begins to understand the distance between dreaming and acting. He later joins a caravan across the Sahara, meets an Englishman studying alchemy and falls in love with Fatima at an oasis. Love forces him to ask whether pursuing his dream means leaving behind what matters most.

Guided by an alchemist, Santiago learns to listen to his heart and recognise the omens around him. His search for material riches becomes a journey towards his Personal Legend, a calling that demands courage and perseverance.

The Alchemist combines adventure, parable and spiritual exploration. Through accessible storytelling, Paulo Coelho considers the choices that shape a life, the relationship between destiny and free will, and the knowledge gained through experience. Santiago’s journey invites readers to examine their own hopes and the security that keeps them from acting.
