Marcel Proust
Marcel Proust (10. srpnja 1871. – 18. studenog 1922.) bio je jedan od najznačajnijih francuskih književnika 20. stoljeća, poznat ponajprije po monumentalnom romanu "U traganju za izgubljenim vremenom" (À la recherche du temps perdu), objavljenom u sedam svezaka između 1913. i 1927. Proust je rođen u Parizu u imućnoj buržuaškoj obitelji. Studirao je pravo i filozofiju, ali se rano posvetio književnosti.
Njegova rana djela uključuju zbirku eseja Les Plaisirs et les Jours (1896), ali tek s romanom Swannov svijet (1913), prvim dijelom njegove epopeje, stječe značajnije književno priznanje. Glavna tema Proustove proze jest prolaznost vremena i sjećanje, posebno evocirano poznatim motivom Madeleine kolačića, koji simbolizira nenadano prisjećanje.
Proustov stil karakterizira dugačke rečenice, introspektivna analiza i bogat psihološki uvid. Unatoč zdravstvenim problemima, gotovo desetljeće je radio zatvoren u svojoj sobi obloženoj plutenim pločama, kako bi završio svoj životni opus.
Njegov utjecaj na svjetsku književnost je ogroman – brojni autori, od Nabokova do Becketta, navodili su Prousta kao ključnu inspiraciju.
