The Vatican Museums are one of the largest and oldest museums in the world, located in the Vatican Palace. With more than 1400 rooms, these museums form an extremely important museum complex.
Their value derives from the quantity and quality of masterpieces collected by various popes over the centuries, as well as from the sumptuous rooms in which these works are exhibited. Here are some key facts about the Vatican Museums:
- Pio-Clementino Museum: Here is the magnificent and rich legacy of two popes who lived in the 17th century, Clement XIV. and Pius VI. The statue gallery contains Praxitel's "Apollon Saurokton", and in the Hall of Animals you can see reproductions of numerous animals in marble and alabaster11.
- Vatican Pinacoteca: The largest collection of Italian and European paintings is kept here. In the 18 rooms of the Pinakothek, you can see masterpieces by artists such as Rodin, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Kandinsky, Chagall, Picasso and many others.
- Raphael's Rooms: Connected to the Vatican Museums, these rooms contain frescoes by Raphael.

In 2019, 6,882,931 people visited the Vatican Museums, making it the third most visited museum in the world.
