A historical children's novel set in England, in the 16th century, during the reign of the English king Henry VIII. and the beginning of the reign of his son Edward VI.

Two boys: heir to the throne Edward Tudor and poor Tom Canty quite accidentally switch clothes and so, because of their amazing resemblance and their roles. The young king is condemned to a series of misfortunes, wanderings and searching for a way to restore his royal power, and Tom Canty is forced to learn to rule in a short time. The plot unfolds happily, and the boys eventually take their rightful place.
