After his release, ex-convict and policeman Travis Chase embarks on a solitary trip to the Alaskan wilderness, expecting to find peace and self-reflection.
But then he comes across a crashed plane full of dead bodies, among them the first lady of the United States. He also senses that some mysterious object has disappeared from the plane. Armed to the teeth and using his instincts and experience as a good cop, Travis follows the killers who are torturing kidnapped Paige Campbell to get her father Peter to tell them another secret. When Peter finally relents and speaks, he is mercilessly killed. However, Travis manages to save Paige. Her father's last words send Paige and Travis into a dangerous world of secrets and conspiracies, where they slowly learn about the unfathomable Rift and face increasingly vicious enemies.
