Pod suncem Toskane

Frances Mayes

Under the Tuscan Sun is a 1996 memoir by the American writer Frances Mayes. It was adapted by director Audrey Wells for the 2003 film Under the Tuscan Sun.

If paradise exists, then it certainly looks like the interior of the most poetic Italian province of Tuscany. Frances Mayes, a university professor and publicist, was convinced of this for a long time, and then, after summers spent in cottages all over that picturesque region, she was given the opportunity to buy a wonderful old house called Bramasole. The notebook that served as a diary of her first years in Italy, ten years later became the book "Under the Tuscan Sun", a description of her Tuscan pleasures. The decoration and extension of the house, the transformation of the neglected garden into its original function as an olive grove, the discovery of numerous connections between food and culture are just the framework of the pleasure of learning how to live in a different culture and a different quality of life. The house slowly came to life, her wish for the sun was answered, the neglected olive trees began to bloom and bear fruit, and the tendril of the vine from which the sapling sprouts is a metaphor for life that must change from time to time, if we want to take a step forward in our way of thinking . Cortona, San Gimignano, Siena, Volterra and Florence, Tuscan cultural jewels, hills bathed in the sun like the ones in children's drawings, the surroundings with pretty village Romanesque churches and steep vineyard paths are the most beautiful scenario you can imagine, and the realization of how radically different and special Italy is , will completely enchant you.
