The novel Fathers and Sons (1862) is one of the most significant works of Russian realism and classical literature in general. Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev depicts social changes in Russia in the mid-19th century, through a generational conflict between conservative "fathers" and radical "sons". The key motif of the work is the opposition of traditional values and a new, nihilistic worldview.
