Neodoljiva mladost

Božo Lovrić

A novel about life in Split by Božo Lovrić.

A work that is intended to mark the 25th anniversary of the author's literary work and in which Split and Split society are depicted, as they were thirty years ago. The joy of life! Young people rejoice in the sun, the sea and love. The thought of unpleasantness is far from them, because "irresistible youth" wraps everything in rainbow patterns. The breath of transience is barely felt in the moments of separation, when boys and girls, by force of circumstances, have to give up their love. But even that sadness does not last long, because youth forgets easily. The work mainly describes student life and the awakening of eroticism, which is depicted masterfully. Countless faces and characters, which are described very vividly. A wealth of episodes from the Split area (Marjan and Vranjic). Among the heroines of the novel there are also offended (Jurka) and humiliated (prostitute Milka), who with their undeserved fate deeply shake the soul of the reader. It is a significant episode, in which the author – as a poet of the south and the sea – describes Prague and the nightlife of the northern metropolis for the sake of contrast. In one chapter, he also presents a characterization of Professor Toma Masaryk, who had such a decisive influence on our youth of that time. Lovrić's young heroes do not perish, because they believe in struggle and life, just like their great teacher, the current president of the Czechoslovak Republic.
