Lovci na zlato našeg stoljeća

Lovci na zlato našeg stoljeća

Harald Steinert

Gold Hunters of Our Century is a non-fiction book published in 1959 that explores the global race for rare and strategic minerals in the context of Cold War geopolitical dynamics.

The author describes in detail how countries such as the USA, Canada, and Germany searched for uranium, thorium, lithium, beryllium, zirconium, and titanium—key raw materials for the development of nuclear energy and the military industry.

The book is structured into 20 chapters, each covering a specific aspect of the search for these valuable resources. For example, the chapter "Promised Land of Uranium Millionaires" shows how many believed they would find riches in uranium deposits, while "Six Billion Dollars in the 'Big Z'" points to huge investments in mining projects. Steinert also analyzes how mining activities spread around the world, including Canada, Africa and Germany, and how they affected local communities and ecosystems.

The book not only documents the technical and economic aspects of mining, but also critically reflects on the ethical and ecological consequences of the exploitation of natural resources. Steinert warns of the dangers of irresponsible mining and the need for a sustainable approach to exploiting natural resources.

"Gold Hunters of Our Century" remains a relevant work for understanding the history of industrial development and its connection to the political interests of great powers.
