Hrvatske narodne pjesme, knjiga deseta: Haremske pričalice i bunjevačke groktalice

The tenth book in the Croatian Folk Songs series, subtitled Women's Songs – Volume Six: Harem Tales and Bunjevac Groktalice, represents a valuable contribution to the preservation and study of Croatian oral literature.

The collection is divided into two thematic sections:

  • Harem Tales: This section contains poems that reflect women's perspectives, emotions, and everyday situations within closed social frameworks, such as harems. The poems are imbued with motifs of love, longing, sadness, and introspection, providing insight into the inner world of women of that time.

  • Bunjevac Groktalice: This segment features poems that are characteristic of the Bunjevac community. Groktalice are short, witty poems that often use wordplay, humor, and irony to comment on social norms, gender relations, and everyday events.

The collection is enriched with illustrations by Julio V. Meissner, further emphasizing the cultural and artistic significance of the works. This book not only documents the diversity and richness of Croatian folk poetry, but also provides valuable insight into women's voices and experiences within traditional communities.
