In the, at first glance difficult, comparison of Proust, Kafka and Sholokhov, what is significant is what may not immediately catch the eye: a kind of engagement of all three, the formal sign of which is the seriousness of the events without humor or ironic attitude. We are faced with the surprising realization that Proust is as socially engaged as Sholokhov is class-oriented, and Kafka is on the existential question of man, regardless of the fact that Proust's statement is centered around language, Sholokhov's around content, and Kafka's around theme.
