Moje ime je Gmižić… Glištun Gmižić
My name is Gmižić… Glištun Gmižić, a comic book by Dubravko Mataković, a Croatian cartoonist from Vinkovci, is a cult example of his grotesque and satirical style.
The collection follows the adventures of Glištun Gmižić, an eccentric character set in a dystopian future imbued with dark humor, unscientific fiction, and social criticism. Mataković, known for series such as Mali Ivica and Protman, uses Gmižić to explore absurd situations, often using local expressions and invented words specific to Slavonian speech, which makes the comic distinctly regional, but also universally entertaining.
The plot follows Glištun, often depicted as an antihero, in a chaotic world filled with aliens, zombies, and vampires. Over a series of episodes, Gmižić faces bizarre challenges, from fighting colonizers from outer space to interacting with characters such as Prcmilka Gmižić. Mataković's artwork, inspired by punk and heavy metal aesthetics, combines caricatured characters with detailed backgrounds, while the narrative mixes cynicism, irony, and wit.
