Poetične misli
"Poetic Thoughts" is a collection of aphorisms excerpted from his "Book of Unrest," a specific lyrical-thoughtful "novel without facts." The selection of texts, edited by Marina Šur Puhlovski and Tanja Tarbuk, arose spontaneously during the reading.
The aphorisms are thematically arranged into 27 chapters (e.g. on God, love, science), reflecting the paradoxical nature of the world that Pessoa sees as the foundation of truth. The book explores Pessoa’s philosophy that rejects mere logic, merging intellect and intuition.
Aphorisms such as “I doubt, therefore I think” or “Most people think with feeling, while I feel with thought” reveal his profound insight into the human soul and the world of contradictions. Pessoa believes that truth lies in paradox, not in dogma or single-mindedness, which he calls “the false peace of a sick mind.” These thoughts, set aside for the reader’s need to return to them, serve as a weapon against the superficiality of modern times.
The collection emphasizes Pessoa’s view of life as restless, imbued with melancholy and the realization that “nothing can be known.” His aphorisms, like pillars of a “counter-world,” offer comfort and inspiration to those seeking a deeper understanding of existence.
