Angažirana vjera

Emmanuel Mounier

From its beginnings, Christianity has been internally confronted with the question of whether it is a religion of a mystical, intimist relationship with God – to the point of temptation to flee and despise man and the world, or whether it is a prophetic,

Here we bring some thoughts from the French philosopher Emmanuel Mounier (1905-1950) from his book Engaged Faith. They are an incentive not only to reach for the book but also to seek our own path in our own dilemma between engagement and passivity, between privatistic faith and pragmatic use of the gospel. Mounier belongs to a unique current of French Christians, known as Christian personalism, who insisted on the dignity of the human person between nationalism and fascism, on the one hand, and materialistic communism, on the other. Mounier did not live to see the Second Vatican Council, which he and his friends had so hoped for and stressed the need for.
