Felix Austria: antologija austrijske kratke priče

Felix Austria: antologija austrijske kratke priče

Milka Car

The book presents a selection of short stories by about 15 Austrian authors, trying to show the development of Austrian short prose - from realism and naturalism through modernity and expressionism to post-war and postmodernist literature.

The book contains works by fifteen authors, whose texts illustrate the trends of modern and contemporary Austrian short fiction, such as: Werner Kofler, Josef Winkler, Wolf Haas, Thomas Glavinic, Barbara Galvagni and others.

The stories are thematically diverse: love and erotic tension, social criticism, existential crisis, the absurdity of everyday life, the trauma of war and the Holocaust, feminist and political tones. The title "Felix Austria" ironically alludes to the Austrian myth of "happy Austria" (Felix Austria nube - may Austria be happy), contrasting it with the often dark and critical content of the stories.

The anthology is an important introduction to Austrian short fiction for Croatian readers - concise, well-chosen and translated, with an introduction by the editor on the historical and stylistic development of the genre. Appreciated as a bridge between two neighboring literatures, it shows the depth of the Austrian literary tradition in a small form.
