Mirno teku rijeke: Stihovi 1957.-2005.

Drago Britvić

A posthumous collection of poems and texts by Drago Britvić (1935–2005), one of the most influential Croatian songwriters of popular music and chanson. The book brings together his entire oeuvre, including the title song "Mirno teku rijeke".

Britvić is a metaphor for the top author of applied poetry in Croatian popular music: his verses were composed and sung by the greatest – from klapa, through Vice Vukov, Arsen Dedić, Gabi Novak, to Oliver Dragojević and others. Recognizable themes are love verses (romantic, melancholic, intimate), patriotic songs (patriotic, but without pathos) and a cycle of songs about Zagreb (urban charm, suburbs, streets, everyday life).

The collection shows Britvić's versatility: from Čakavian and Kajkavian variants (Dalmatian and Krapina color) to the Štokavian standard, with an emphasis on melody, rhythm and emotional depth that easily communicates with the audience. The book is not just a collection of lyrics for songs, but also an independent poetic entity – lyrical, simple, but deep, with elements of humor, nostalgia and life wisdom.

Popular in Croatia as a tribute to the great author, it is often sought after by fans of domestic chanson and poetry. It also contains sheet music for some of the songs and introductory texts about the author. If you like the verses of Vice Vukov, Oliver or Arsen – this is the book for you.
