Star (1989) by Danielle Steel is a typical epic romance novel full of drama, sorrow and triumph. The main character Crystal Wyatt is a young, innocent and extremely beautiful girl who lives on a ranch in Northern California. Her father is the only one who loves and protects her; her surroundings envy and hate her for her beauty. After her father's death, she is left alone and vulnerable - difficult events occur, including violence and trauma that force her to leave home.

Crystal heads for Hollywood with her only weapon: her beauty and extraordinary singing voice. She begins to sing in bars, attracts attention and slowly rises to fame. Meeting the respected Spencer Hill (a lawyer and politician) brings great love - but also obstacles: class differences, marriages, separations, war and years of suffering. Their relationship is turbulent, full of sacrifices and reunions.

The novel follows Crystal's journey from poor girl to Hollywood star - through scandals, losses, motherhood and final healing. Steel builds strong emotional tension, focusing on the themes of love that endures despite everything, the strength of women and the price of fame.
