Pod starim krovovima

Pod starim krovovima

Ksaver Šandor Đalski

Writing about the Zagorje nobles and the specific life of the Zagorje manors at a time when major social changes were beginning to occur in Croatia.

Gjalski stopped time and, with his artistic words, saved from oblivion the authenticity of the world to which he himself belonged, which was brutally collapsing before his eyes. The book contains an Introduction and five short stories from the collection Pod starim krovovima: Illustrissimus Battorych, Diljem Brezovice, Na Badnjak, Plemenitaši i plemići and Perillustris ac generosus Cintek. Two short stories from other collections have been included in this book: Životopis jedne excellency and Ljubav lajtanta Milić, and a selection from Rukoveti autobiografskih zapisaka. Edited by Miroslav Šicel, who wrote the foreword, compiled a dictionary and selected quotes from the literature about Gjalski.
