Sergije Glumac

Sergije Glumac (1903-1964), a painter and graphic artist, set designer, designer and illustrator, is an unjustly forgotten and suppressed name in Croatian art, because his graphics, drawings and posters belong to the very pinnacle of Croatian modernism.

Working as a set designer at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, Sergije Glumac created a series of set and costume sketches, until recently completely unknown to the public, that represent the very foundations of not only the Croatian, but also the world's avant-garde. This book publishes for the first time Sergije Glumac's Dubrovnik album with fifty crayon drawings, created about fifty years ago. Traditional artistic motifs such as fortress walls, towers, portals, from Glumac's "hand", also give completely new perspectives to the otherwise well-known views of the Old Town.
