Osječka bibliografija I-II: Tiskarsko-izdavačka djelatnost u Osijeku od 1742. do 1978. godine

Marija Malbaša

The capital bibliography of printing and publishing activities in Osijek from 1742 to 1978 lists thousands of books, newspapers, magazines and small print, regardless of language. A classic of Croatian bibliographic creativity of the 20th century.

The Osijek Bibliography by Marija Malbaša is a major work of Croatian bibliography and a fundamental source for studying the cultural and printing history of Osijek and Slavonia. It was published in two volumes by the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (Center for Scientific Research in Osijek).

Marija Malbaša (1909–1995), a long-time senior librarian of the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek, dedicated decades of work to this project. The bibliography includes all printed matter produced in Osijek printing houses – books, brochures, newspapers, magazines, calendars, posters and small print – regardless of language (Croatian, Serbian, German, Hungarian, Latin, etc.). It thus reflects the multilingual and multicultural nature of Osijek throughout the centuries.

The work is chronologically arranged, with detailed descriptions of units and indexes, which makes it an invaluable tool for historians, librarians, philologists, musicologists and all researchers of Slavonian and Osijek heritage. It represents the result of systematic collection of material from the Essekiana local collection of the Museum of Slavonia and additional research in other institutions.

This is a rare and highly regarded scientific publication – the basis for any serious research into Osijek's past. It will be especially pleasing to collectors of antiquarian bibliographies, scientists and lovers of local Slavonian history.
