Sabrane pjesme I–III

This is the most comprehensive edition of Šenoa's poetry published as part of his Collected Works by the reputable publisher Stjepan Kugli. The three volumes (XIV–XVI) contain almost everything Šenoa wrote in verse – from early youthful poems to mature patriotic and socially engaged texts.

The first volume is dominated by intimate and love poems, while the second and third contain patriotic, political and occasional lyrics, satire and numerous translations of foreign poets. Šenoa was an exceptionally prolific poet; he wrote easily, melodically and with a strong public charge. His poems such as Budi svoj!, Živila Hrvatska, Na Ozlju gradu or Karamfil sa pjesnikova groba became part of the national canon and were gladly recited in schools and at public events.

Šenoa's poetry reflects the spirit of Illyrianism and the Croatian national revival, but at the same time it also brings romantic individualism, melancholy and strong patriotism. Just as he was the founder of modern Croatian prose and novels, Šenoa was also a transitional figure in poetry between romantic idealism and a realistic approach.

The St. Kuglij edition is considered a reference for the interwar period. The books are neatly furnished, in hardcover, and are part of the complete Collected Works of August Šenoa that were published during the 1920s and 1930s.
