Posljednja ljetna noć

Erskine Caldwell

"The Last Night of Summer" by American writer Erskine Caldwell is a novel that deals with interpersonal relationships, social tensions, and moral crises in the American South, for which Caldwell is known.

The story takes place during a hot summer night in a small southern town. Through the encounters and conflicts of several characters, hidden passions, disappointments, poverty, and violence that simmer beneath the seemingly peaceful everyday life gradually come to the surface. As the night progresses, tension grows and events occur that change their lives. Caldwell depicts ordinary people caught between desires, poverty, and social constraints. Caldwell writes realistically, directly, and without embellishment. His dialogues and descriptions are often harsh, but very lifelike. The atmosphere of the novel is stifling and tense, which enhances the feeling of decay and inner turmoil of the characters.
