Bosna – Podaci o zemljopisu i poviesti Bosne i Hercegovine. Prvi dio: Zemljopis

Vjekoslav Klaić

Klaić's systematic overview of the geography of Bosnia and Herzegovina with information on the location, relief, rivers, climate and natural resources. The book is extremely rare on the market. It contains nine images and two geographical maps.

Bosnia – Data on the geography and history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Part One: Geography is the first part of a more extensive work by Vjekoslav Klaić dedicated to Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Austro-Hungarian occupation in 1878.

In this volume, Klaić provided a detailed and systematic geographical overview of the country. The book covers physical geography (position, borders, size, mountains, plains, karst, rivers, lakes, climate, flora and fauna) and political and statistical geography (division into districts, population, settlements, economy and transport). Special attention is paid to descriptions of individual regions – from Posavina, through Central Bosnia, to Herzegovina.

The work is written in a clear and concise style, intended for a wider audience, teachers and students. It contains nine pictures (drawings) in the text and two geographical maps (folded). Klaić used available sources of the time, travelogues and official data from the Austro-Hungarian administration, creating one of the most comprehensive geographical overviews of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 19th century.

The book represents an important part of Croatian geographical and historiographical literature of the 19th century. It is still used today as a valuable historical source for the study of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Austro-Hungarian period.
