Wolves of the Beyond 6: Star Wolf
The great cold destroys the old order of the wolf packs, and Faolan leads the refugees across an ice bridge to a new home. The journey through ice, storms, and enemies is the ultimate test of his leadership.
Wolves of the Beyond 6: Star Wolf is the final novel in the Kathryn Lasky series and the denouement of Faolan's fate. The world of wolves has been gripped by a great cold: summer, the smell of grass and the old hunting trails have disappeared, and the packs that he once kept in order are now falling apart under the pressure of hunger, winter and fear. In such a world, Faolan is no longer just a single, marked wolf who must prove himself, but one who is responsible for the survival of others.
The central plot of the novel follows Faolan as he leads a group of wolves, actually refugees, towards a possible new home. To get there, they must cross a dangerous ice bridge over the sea, through jagged ice, howling winds and threats from both nature and hostile wolves outside the pack. The journey is both a physical struggle for survival and the ultimate test of Faolan's leadership: can he keep the pack together, make difficult decisions and remain true to what has set him apart all along?
The novel rounds out the main themes of the series - rejection, belonging, destiny and maturing into a leader. Faolan's journey, which began as a story about an abandoned wolf cub with a deformed paw, ends here as a story about a wolf who must find a future for his entire people.
