The Game of Death is a historical crime novel by Oliver Pötzsch that takes the reader to Vienna in the late 19th century, a city of opulent palaces, scientific discoveries, and dark secrets. Young inspector Leopold von Herzfeldt is faced with a complex case when a series of brutal murders shakes the city. The victims are connected by unusual clues that point to a mysterious game in which every move leads to a new crime.

In his search for the killer, Leopold joins forces with unlikely allies, including the gravedigger Augustin Rothmayer and his resourceful assistant Julia.
