Jules Verne

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, an antiquarian edition from 1920 with the cover and illustrations in the book by Andrija Maurović – a rare and attractive copy of a classic of world adventure literature.

One of the most sought-after and most beautiful Croatian editions of Jules Verne! This rare antiquarian edition from 1920 is particularly valuable because it bears the cover, as well as the illustrations inside the book, by the great Croatian illustrator Andrija Maurović, one of the most important masters of Croatian graphics and comics of the 20th century.

The novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1870) is a classic of adventure and science fiction literature. Verne takes us on a fascinating journey aboard the submarine Nautilus of Captain Nemo – a brilliant, mysterious and vengeful scientist. The story follows Professor Aronnax, his servant Consuelo and harpooner Ned Land in their encounters with underwater wonders, sea monsters, sunken Atlantis and spectacular scenes of the deep sea.

This edition from 1920 is particularly valuable because it represents a combination of top world literature and top Croatian illustrator's skill. Maurović's cover is strong, dramatic, and recognizable – perfectly evoking the adventure and mystery of the novel.

In the novel "Deceptive Lovers", the author develops the motif of PARALLEL WORLDS, keeping in mind, first of all, the ANTI-WAR message, but unfortunately not the logical coherence of the work.

The motif that Nesvadba has already used in a science fiction context, the FALSIFICATION OF AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIND, in "The Showdown with Doctor Dong" serves as a starting point for questioning the RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN REVOLUTION AND SCIENTIFIC TRUTH.
