My Love Is Your Love
Whitney Houston's fourth studio album from 1998 brought a modern and fresh twist to contemporary R&B and hip-hop soul sounds, led by the timeless hit "My Love Is Your Love" and a duet with Mariah Carey.
Released in November 1998 by Arista Records, My Love Is Your Love is one of the most important and musically innovative projects in Whitney Houston's rich career. After a multi-year hiatus dedicated to film projects and film scores, Whitney returned to a full-length studio album with a new, extremely modern sound. On the release, she collaborated with leading producers of the era, including Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Rodney Jerkins (Darkchild) and Babyface, who gave the album a recognizable combination of urban R&B, hip-hop rhythms and impressive ballads.
The album spawned a series of extremely successful global singles. Of particular note is the Oscar-winning duet with Mariah Carey "When You Believe" (from the animated film The Prince of Egypt), the emotional title single "My Love Is Your Love", and the rhythmic hits "Heartbreak Hotel", "It's Not Right But It's Okay" and "I Learned from the Best". Recognized for Whitney's impeccable vocal power and mature interpretation, My Love Is Your Love achieved multi-platinum sales and is remembered as the crowning testament to her versatility and musical relevance at the turn of the millennium.
