Begegnungen

Peter Maffay

German rocker Peter Maffay's 1998 double concept album features impressive international collaborations with musicians from all seven continents, fusing rock and ethno rhythms.

Released in 1998, the album "Begegnungen" (Encounters) represents one of the most ambitious and valuable achievements in the career of the legendary German rock star Peter Maffay. This conceptual project arose from Maffay's desire to bridge cultural and musical differences and to spread the message of peace, tolerance and global togetherness through the universal language of music.

The album brings a fascinating blend of western rock with traditional sounds, authentic instruments and rhythms of artists from several continents. Maffay hosted an impressive number of international musicians at this edition, including the iconic South African band Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Australian Yotha Yindi, Israeli singer Noa and numerous other performers. The songs skilfully combine Maffay's distinctive, raspy vocals with ethnic elements, creating dynamic and emotionally charged compositions.

The "Begegnungen" project achieved enormous commercial success with multi-million copies sold and grew into an extensive tour and humanitarian initiative. For collectors and fans of quality rock music and world music fusion, this release remains a lasting monument to artistic openness and the merging of different cultures.
