The Violin Player

The Violin Player

Vanessa Mae

Violinist Vanessa-Mae's innovative 1995 debut pop-classical album brings together classical violin and modern pop/techno rhythms with the cult hit "Contradanza".

Released in February 1995 by EMI, “The Violin Player” is the international breakthrough album by British-Singaporean child prodigy and virtuoso violinist Vanessa-Mae. This release marked a turning point in contemporary instrumental music, defining a new, experimental genre called “techno-acoustic fusion” and bringing the classical instrument closer to a whole new, younger audience around the world.

The album is characterized by a bold and energetic combination of classical violin technique with modern pop, dance and techno rhythms, with a luxurious synthesizer and orchestral background. Of particular note is the collaboration with the famous composer and producer Mike Batt. Among the most famous songs are the dynamic planetary hit “Contradanza”, an emotional and dramatic treatment of the traditional composition “Classical Gas” and a virtuoso interpretation of J. S. Bach in a modern, energetic arrangement.

"The Violin Player" sold millions of copies, was certified gold and platinum, and launched Vanessa-Mae to the top of the global music charts. This CD release remains a must-have for any fan of crossover music and 90s pop culture classics.
