Megre i čovek s klupe

Georges Simenon

Georges Simenon's classic detective novel follows Commissioner Maigret as he investigates the murder of a quiet clerk. By uncovering the victim's double life, Maigret unravels the secret hidden behind the ordinary everyday life.

The novel "Magre and the Man on the Bench" by one of the most prolific and famous writers of the detective genre, Georges Simenon, brings a superb psychological investigation set in the streets of Paris. The story begins with the discovery of the body of Louis Thouret, a seemingly ordinary and unremarkable man who was murdered in a dark alley. At first glance, he is a family man and a quiet clerk with no enemies, but Commissioner Maigret soon realizes that the victim has not been to work for months and that he has been leading a completely hidden, double life. Spending his days sitting on Parisian benches and watching passersby, Thouret has created a new everyday life far from the eyes of his family and neighbors. With characteristic patience, deep empathy and the assembly of small mosaics, Maigret delves into the psychology of the murdered man in order to understand who he really was and what led him to his tragic end. Instead of cheap action, Simenon foregrounds the atmosphere of the Parisian streets, the melancholy of the little man and the socialist nuances of bourgeois life. "Megre and the man from the bench" remains one of the most memorable works from the series about Commissioner Maigret.
