Zebnja

Zebnja

Ivan Michel Antolović

The novel Zebnja is a story about the development of a personality; the character of a boy who defied the world with his mainstream desires for money and women. Constantly experiencing periodic failures, he acquires the characteristics of a sorrowful hero

The book "Zebnja" by Croatian writer and poet Ivan Michel Antolović, published in 2013, represents a mature poetic achievement focused on the theme of inner emotional and existential states. The title of the work itself hints at the basic tone of the collection — a constant feeling of anxiety, insecurity and silent concern in the face of the challenges of human everyday life and the inexorable flow of time. Antolović's poetic expression in this collection is characterized by conciseness, picturesqueness and a deep focus on the intimacy of the individual. The poet does not use bombastic metaphors or overly complex linguistic constructions, but uses simple but carefully chosen words to build a very striking atmosphere. At the heart of his interests are the observation of nature, human relationships, the transience of life, loneliness and the search for peace in a world that often seems alienated and unstable. Through the motif of anxiety, the author does not offer pessimism, but calls for a deeper examination of one's own consciousness and finding authenticity in vulnerability. The collection is characterized by a soft, meditative rhythm and sincerity of emotion, which makes it close to lovers of lived, lyrical and reflective poetry. "Zebnja" remains a noticeable contribution to contemporary Croatian poetry, in which personal experience is successfully translated into universal human issues.

In terms of genre, the novel is a combination of fantasy and crime. As in some earlier novels, the novelist touched on certain themes that "hang" in the air. It would be said that the writer anticipates real events.
