Antologija talijanske poezije XX stoljeća

Mladen Machiedo

The extensive anthological selection by Academician Mladen Machied provides a comprehensive and critically informed insight into the developments, trends, and most significant authors of modern and contemporary Italian poetry of the 20th century.

Anthology of Italian Poetry of the 20th Century (1982) in the selection, translation and introductory studies by academician Mladen Machiedo is a major achievement of Croatian Italian studies and translation. This two-volume or extensive treatment covers the key periods and leading trends that marked Italian lyric poetry of the past century – from futurism, hermeticism and hermetic currents to neorealism and experimental avant-garde movements of the second half of the century. Machiedo brings together the most important Italian poets in the anthology, such as Giuseppe Ungaretti, Eugenio Montale, Salvatore Quasimodo, Umberto Sabo, Pier Paolo Pasolini and many others, following their aesthetic transformations and specific poetic voices. In addition to precise and congenial poetic/translation solutions, the anthology is distinguished by an exceptional theometric and essayistic apparatus: excellent introductory studies, analytical notes on the authors and historical and literary contextualizations. The work has become an indispensable manual for the study of Italian literature in the Croatian-speaking area and a testament to the deep aesthetic and cultural connection between the Croatian and Italian poetic traditions.
