Laundry service
Shakira’s Laundry Service blends pop, rock and Latin rhythms with her distinctive vocals. Whenever, Wherever and Underneath Your Clothes lead a varied selection of danceable songs and emotional ballads.
Laundry Service presents Shakira’s blend of pop, rock and Latin rhythms, with songs in English and Spanish. Released in 2001, the album introduced her songwriting to a broad international audience. Her distinctive vocal tone, energetic performances and openness to different musical influences connect danceable moments with more intimate romantic themes.
Whenever, Wherever offers an infectious rhythm and an immediately appealing melody, while Underneath Your Clothes reveals the album’s gentler ballad side. Objection (Tango) combines a tango atmosphere with rock energy, demonstrating how contrasting rhythmic and instrumental approaches can work within a clearly shaped pop song.
Guitars also play an important role in Rules, Fool and Poem to a Horse. The One offers a more direct romantic expression, while Eyes Like Yours (Ojos Así) expands the sound with Middle Eastern influences. The Spanish-language songs Te Dejo Madrid and Que Me Quedes Tú maintain a connection with the language in which Shakira established her early career.
This CD is a good choice for lovers of melodic pop rock and Latin music, as well as listeners wishing to explore beyond the best-known singles. Different languages and moods create variety, while her strong vocal personality holds the album together. Laundry Service offers both music for movement and songs that reward quieter, attentive listening. Its appeal lies in the balance between memorable choruses, personal expression and a willingness to enrich mainstream pop with different musical colours.
