Formula smrti continues the story begun in Palikuća. Behind the attacks linked to the Keating mine stands Joss Beaumont, an engineer believed to have died in the disaster. Survival has not freed him from the tragedy, but turned him into an avenger.
Beaumont holds the mine owner responsible for the workers’ deaths. He uses his chemical expertise to create a devastating explosive, placing new lives at risk through the consequences of an earlier crime.
Vittorio Sossi and Mirko Perniola combine crime adventure with a drama of responsibility and revenge. Understanding the avenger’s motives does not mean accepting his methods. Zagor must prevent further violence without ignoring the causes of the catastrophe or attempts to conceal them.
Alessandro Chiarolla’s artwork emphasises agitation and violent confrontation. Industry, fire and destruction create a threatening setting, while the clash between personal trauma and greed preserves the story’s human focus.
This is the middle chapter of the trilogy spanning Ludens #331–333, between Palikuća and Osveta bez kraja. It questions whether the pursuit of justice can remain just when it becomes an instrument of personal destruction.
