Neizvršena oporuka

Neizvršena oporuka

Pierre Boileau, Thomas Narcejac

Unexecuted Will is a crime novel by the duo Boileau-Narcejac in which a mysterious will, family secrets, and a series of suspicious events trigger an investigation that gradually reveals long-hidden motives.

Unexecuted Will is a novel by the French author duo Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, known for their psychological crime novels in which the tension stems more from the characters and hidden motives than from the detective investigation itself.

The plot begins after the death of a wealthy man whose will leaves numerous unresolved questions. Family members and potential heirs expect a clear solution to the inheritance, but it turns out that certain provisions of the will have not been implemented or are impossible to implement. This causes conflicts between relatives, mutual accusations and suspicions that someone is deliberately concealing the truth.

As the circumstances of death and the contents of the will are investigated, old family relationships marked by jealousy, financial interests and long-standing resentments come to the surface. Characters who initially seemed innocent gradually reveal their hidden motives. Almost no one in the novel is completely innocent, and each new piece of information changes the picture of events.

Boileau and Narcejac pay special attention to the psychology of the characters. Fear of losing an inheritance, the desire for social prestige and a sense of injustice encourage individuals to take actions that lead to tragedy. The investigation develops slowly, through conversations, memories and the discovery of details from the past, and the tension arises from the uncertainty about who can be trusted.

The novel is not only aimed at discovering the perpetrators but also at depicting the moral decay of people when they are faced with the possibility of acquiring wealth. Unexecuted Will therefore combines a classic crime plot with psychological analysis, which is why the work of Boileau and Narcejac has become recognizable among fans of European crime novels.
