Xavier de Maistre od Savoje živio je uglavnom kao vojno lice, ali je poznat kao francuski pisac. Mlađi brat Josepha de Maistrea, poznatog filozofa i konzervativca, Xavier je rođen u aristokratskoj obitelji u Chambéryju u listopadu 1763.
