Die Ereignisse der Novelle spielen in der bäuerlichen Welt der östlichen Teile von Slovenske Gorica, wo neue Lebensformen geschaffen werden, die für die sozialistische Entwicklung der Nachkriegszeit notwendig waren: Auf der einen Seite beginnen Winzer und Kutscher ihr eigenes Leben nach ihren eigenen Vorteilen und Bedürfnissen zu gestalten, und auf der anderen Seite gibt es eine offizielle politische Ideologie, die alles kollektiviert.
