Žena koja je legla u krevet na godinu dana

Sue Townsend

The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year is a witty and touching novel about what happens when someone stops being the person everyone wants them to be.

The day her children went to study, Eva got into bed and stayed in it. For seventeen years, she just wanted to shout to the world: "Stop! I'm coming down!" Now she finally had the opportunity to do so. Maybe he'll have time to think. Her husband, Doctor Beaver, an astronomer who spends his time staring at the expanding universe and maintaining an eight-year adulterous relationship with his colleague Titania, and idling in a converted garden shed, is not at all pleased with this. Who will prepare dinner? He complains that Eva has had a nervous breakdown and has taken attention-seeking to a new level. But word of Eva's refusal to get out of bed spreads quickly. There is also Alexander, the jack of all trades, who arrives to help Eva get rid of all her clothes and other items from the past and to bring her tea and toast. Hordes of fans write to her and gather in the street to catch a glimpse of the angel. And so, although the world persistently encroaches on her peace, Eva from confinement in bed finally begins to understand what freedom is.
